In First Grade students at Snow Hill Elementary School are really beginning to learn how to read. In all subjects, reading is a focus and strategies are learned that can be applied to learning not only in reading, but in math, science and social studies also. One of the highlights of 1st grade is the annual trip students take in the spring to Ocean City. A ride on the boardwalk train and visits to the Life Saving Museum and Coast Guard Station are enjoyed by all!
There are five 1st Grade classes at SHES. Mrs. Nyoka Mumford, Mrs. Clara Outten, Ms. Kalie Sprankle, Ms. Jamie Tellish and Mr. Will Tignor are the classroom teachers. Mrs. Jackie Brown is the special education/inclusion teacher for first grade. Students attend gym, music, art, media, math and tech labs each week.
Our first grade classes use many types of technology - an addition to our classes this year was the OSMO system. All classes use the OSMO to reinforce skills learned in the classroom, and our school was recently named an Ambassador school for the company! There is also a local connection, as one of the founders of the company is a Worcester County graduate!
